ONE SHOT CHALLENGE
One Shot Challenge, a series dedicated to the sports of Muzzle Loading and Archery, is a unique show hosted by two women, Straight Shot Archery Products, Inc. (formerly X-Ring Archery) Owner, Terri Isaacs and Mary Weigle of Q-1 Video Network. The goal of this show is to educate viewers on the use of muzzleloaders and the multitude of activities available from hunting to target shooting. The archery segments will educate viewers on everything you need to get started in archery, including how to choose a bow and the many accessories needed for the hunter and the competition shooter.
Terri and Mary will be traveling to different regions to compete in International Bow Hunters Organization (IBO) and American Shooters Association (ASA) archery tournaments as well as the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Associations (NMLRA) Spring Shoot in Friendship, Indiana. One of the highlights of this event is the 2-day shooting competition between Manufacturers of Muzzleloaders, shooting at various targets at different ranges. Terri is an experienced archer who has competed in numerous ASA and IBO tournaments as well as an accomplished hunter. She will be instructing Mary in this sport and Mary will be competing for the first time along with Terri. Mary, on the other hand, will be instructing Terri in muzzle loading and she will be competing along side Mary at the Manufacturers Match. The show also features hunting in different locations around the country harvesting White Tail, Turkey, Audad, Wild Boar and other game animals.
Terri Isaacs, owner of Straight Shot Archery Products, (formally X-Ring Archery Products), became involved in the archery industry in 1998. Growing up, Terri enjoyed hunting with her father using a rifle. When she acquired her position as Director of Sales and Marketing with X-Ring, she knew in order to sell the products well, she would need to experience them first hand in the field. Her husband, Mike, encouraged her to become involved with the tournament circuit to help build her confidence for the hunting season. Terri successfully competed in both the Cabela's /ASA Circuit and IBO circuit and finished 10th at the IBO World Tournament and 10th at the Cabela's World Competition.
"I truly enjoy the tournament circuit, but my heart belongs to the woods. Bowhunting is definitely a sport where patience and accuracy is the key. My first harvest was awesome! After daybreak, I was able to stalk a group of Texas Dall Sheep grazing. As my blood rushed and my heart pounded, I concentrated on steadily drawing back my bow and making a clean shot. I released my shot and watched as an incredible Billy hit the ground. He scored a nice silver ranking in the book of exotics. I have since successfully harvested Georgia Whitetail, Kentucky Whitetail and Wild Boar, along with this awesome Texas Dall."
Bowhunting has extended my time in the woods with my family immensely. My husband Mike is an accomplished bowhunter and my daughter Shannon enjoys competition archery along with hunting. Shannon was able to harvest her first whitetail along side her father during the 2001 Youth Hunt.
Terri and Mary recently returned from Texas where they hunted at the South Hills Ranch in Utopia, Texas with owner Bill Watson. Mary harvested an Audad with an unofficial SCI score of 128 and Terri took a great wild boar with her Bow Tech Bow. All of their trips are memorable in one way or another. The people they meet, the beautiful areas they get to visit. Terri and Mary want to help people realize how fortunate and blessed we are to have these resources available to us. Their motto is, "Get out and enjoy the beautiful outdoors!"
Mary Weigle became involved in the hunting and shooting industry 3 years ago, " I had never shot a gun in my life, once I did I immediately fell in love with the sport. I found out you're never too old to learn. What's great is you're in competition against yourself, it's you and the target." She was introduced to the shooting sports industry because of her son Kurt's interest in shooting and hunting. Mary took him to the range and said, "It looked like so much fun I had to try it. I'm always trying to spend more time with my two children and figured that way Kurt and I could spend some great time together having fun." She has also got her daughter Tina involved in target shooting. "Now, the 3 of us can go to the range on the weekend and spend some great time together." Mary hosted local hunting and shooting shows in Michigan and from there it continued to grow. She is now a certified NRA Pistol, Personal Protection in the Home and Home Firearms Safety instructor.
My first Buck was harvested this past fall with just 30 minutes left in the tree stand. We had been at Thunder Valley Ranch in Kellerton, Iowa for 3 days hunting and it was my last day there. My patience was running thin when I turned to my left to see a nice rack slowly emerging up over the bank of a ravine. My heart was pumping so hard I could hardly hold my muzzleloading rifle still. My whole body trembled as I set my scope on this magnificent animal. I wanted to wait until he came into better view so I could take a good shot. All of a sudden he started to quarter and I knew it was now or never. I took a deep breath, exhaled a little, held my breath and squeezed the trigger. Before I knew it my 10 pt 150 B&C was laying not 50 yards from me. He only ran about 8 yards and was down. It's an experience I will treasure for the rest of my life.
